Suggested Answers for MUET Session 2 Reading 800/3 2026

I'm back. Just FYI, I always do online webinars now as prep for each session.. and usually 1 or 2 nights before the actual exam, I do a nationwide prep on a pay as u like basis. Drop me a line on Telegram 01121098865. I also have a separate Telegram group for teacher support esp newbies and anyone who likes my teaching tips, text me and mention Open Mic Group.

As usual pls discuss politely if you do not agree abt any of the suggested answers. Remember that these are not official MPM answers.

1. A (2x 500 =1000m2)

2. C (late evenings = parking is difficult = crowded)

3. B (buy mags usually from a bookshop)

4. B (next to hosp - docs n nurses)

5. A (angry = outburst)

6. B (sweets as reward for biting her tongue, ie. no outburst)

7. B (best present - not stated explicitly but the 2 other options can be proven wrong, ie big is not always nicest, did not say useful is the best either)

8. C (gave in when she offered him sweets)

9. C (she was better than them = he kept losing so he didnt want to play with her anymore)

10. C (started watching birds.. didnt work.. fill up her time)

11. A (stayed awake to read how to keep bird alive)

12. B (progress showed that the bird was close to her.. lived on her)

13. B (by walking closer to its flock)

14. C (not direct answer but by eliminating the fact that she didnt regret and no mention of wished to keep.. mixed feelings is the best option)

15. B (trend to drive on right is by the French n Americans)

16. C (he kept to right side of the road..load their materials into the wagon.

17. C (Japan changed sides 3 times, Russia never changed, Vietnam also never changed from the right)

18. too tricky (no mention of which paragraph so no idea which 'the left' and the 'right' they are referring to. maybe B is the best answer.

19. too tricky. A more than B (not much evidence for these two but logically cannot be C. I would go with A only because it is adapted from Reader's Digest rather than Text 2 which could be less objective as it is written from the point of view of BBC America)

20. B is a more obvious similarity as the reason why Malaysians drive on the right is clear but C is possible but we do not know exactly 'why' the 1835 Act was first put in place. no info on A at all.

// 21 to 26 are based on the actual article here //

21. C (Indonesian)

22. A (action was completed or not)

23. B (diff form if u read or heard about it)

24. D (untestable)

25. G (no sense to ask if lang diff led to diff in thinking)

26. F (Abo language does'nt use left or right)

27. B (use of geese to protect border, cannot be C as the geese r in immigration depts instead of the borders)

28. B (approach of using geese to control virus - no mention of resisting diseases, detect it or how good they are at monitoring the spread)

29. D (keep an eye on = protected)

30. B (para 4 - geese will sound alarm at intruders, para 8 - so good at noticing threats = more efficient at detecting danger)

31. C (para 5 - experiment = scientific fact, para 6 - doctor's opinion = personal observation)

32. D (excellent eyesight)

33. B (wide range of purposes not limited to food option)

34. B (he mentions MT's quote but does not elaborate with a response, rather he counters it with 'however, the question is not who reads but what is read = preferences in reading matter)

35. A (learn about themselves = glimpses of some portion of ourselves, and learn about other people = keener sense of common human identity)

36. tricky one, C is the best to me (para 4 = explains how the study of literature is practical, para 5 = provides examples to support the practicality of studying lit. A is not accurate because it is not focusing on 2 sides because if this is so para 5 should focus on why it is not practical to study lit. B is not the answer because para 5 does not explain each category and D is wrong because it is not a clear cut context about problems versus solutions)

37. A (habits of mind = develop thinking skills)

38. D (only D is mentioned in the para 8 - discussions often help establish an understanding of a work = exchange ideas with others)

39. B (having knowledge of lit devices is a prerequisite to an informed appreciation of it)

40. D (analytic skills that open up literature also have their uses when u listen to music...ppl, places, events etc, ie. other cultural development)

Tricky set.. I think I might be out by 3 or 4 questions as there doesn't seem to be enough evidence in the text that points to a solid answer. Anyway, que sera, sera, whatever will be will be.

Online night webinars start 1 month before Sem 2. pm me on Telegram to join the group. Ciao for now!

Suggested Answers for MUET Session 1 2026 by Mdm Audrey Koh

Welcome back... If you are wondering why there are less teaching posts on my blog, I have migrated to my Telegram support group for teachers.. if u r a teacher and want teaching tips, lots and lots of muetmyway style tips, u r welcome to join me on Telegram 01121098865. Also, I now do night prep webinars for students 1 month before any major exam and usually the last one will be a national prep the night before the actual exam.. can also text me on Telegram for this. Session 2 2026 prep starts on 9th June so get in touch to book your slot asap!

Anyway, here are my SUGGESTED answers. I myself may have a few wrong ones cos the questions are usually tricky.

1. C (6pm)

2. B (get a diary each)

3. A (30 ppl at most)

4. B (manager as opposed to staff - consultant/nutritionist)

5. C (wanted to change his job)

6. A (a merchant = businessman)

7. B (boasted of his knowledge of physics)

8. B (this was the reason, ie 'this' refers to his father explaining science to him)

9. B (your son has never done his homework)

10. C (ask for you staff access card)

11. A (show we care about = look after)

12. C (read and complete your employment paperwork n Mr Raj will help w this process)

13. B (our team is excited to meet you)

14. C (exchange gifts during dinner)

15. B (A is based on the fact that there is evidence of ppl scanning maps etc. C is based on a real existence of a mural to honour the lady, so B is more of an opinion esp with the term used 'they don't seem to..')

16. B (she recalled.. she described.. the paragraphs are filled with her reflections and thoughts of the place)

17. C (elevations about 3000ft, A is not 1930 but 1936, B says 'after flowering' but no timeframe specified)

18. A (only A has Joshua trees details in the last paragraph)

19. A (Text 1 focuses on the founder while Text 2 describes what the park consists of)

20. A (Text 1 gives credit to Minerva HH not Pres Roosevelt so B is X, Text 2 never mentions her mural so C is X)

21. G (anaphoric: by our writing and by our conversation... matches 'by the way we communicate)

22. F (anaphoric: some are satisfied so they do not think they need to improve it)

23. B (anaphoric: mentions higher marks)

24. D (cataphoric: mentions poorly expressed so 'must express' should logically be mentioned before this)

25. A (links with students and improvement in writing)

26. C (contrasting writing novels vs writing for publication)

27. C (how she could use her skills to study them)

28. C (urgent mission = critical need, work on solution = resolve)

29. B (conversation = discussion)

30. A (data given, no mention of theories, personal accounts or specific reports)

31. C/D (C is plausible because 1st line says climate change is terrifying but it seems too direct, I prefer line 39 'inspired by her work and the new will for change so I will go with D at a push. facinating is X as it refers to how the world works and depressing refers to the consequences so X too)

32. D (bring together expertise from the uni and beyond)

33. D (create a zero-carbon future = opportunity to create a solution for it, not just discuss the impact)

34. A (compare rich vs poor backgrounds: richer parishioners vs humbler neighbours)

35. B (Godfrey - loss of youth which is marked means he is older now, wife - not much younger so does mean is a a little younger so not the same age, years have not been so cruel to Nancy so she grew up but she still looks good 'has kept its highest qualities', overall A is X because Nancy is leaning on his arm does not prove they are distant)

36. B/C (I would go with C as he goes into very detailed description, but in the description he is also comparing the young version versus the old versions. Your guess is as good as mine)

37. C (any higher title has died away so they are the highest up in the list)

38. D (looks 60 plus instead of his age of 55)

39. C (rather vexed about her hair = unhappy)

40. B/C (too tricky.. I'm going with reserved because he only thinks that straight hair is the best in general but he does not say this to Eppie upfront, this could also show insecurity esp since he is walking behind her and the writer says he is not quite sure.. but is this the same as being insecure? no evidence of realistic or optimistic.. hmmm.. again, your guess is as good as mine.)

Ok.. good luck to all. Will compare my own answers to the official ones in a year or two. Haha. You need a minimum of 24/40 for a Band 4. If you get anything over 30, congrats to you.. and if u get 35+, you can teach MUET sudah like me. hahahahahahaha.

Anyway, just a note to question setters, kindly refrain from using old English to test in MUET. The official documents say we test from A2 to C1.. it doesn't make sense why the text used is C2 and beyond in an older version of English that is not currently the lingua franca. I pity the students who have to answer and the teachers who have to explain. This exam paper has a 1970+ excerpt for the gapped text and a 1800+s narrative in the last part. Sighs.
