I'm back. Just FYI, I always do online webinars now as prep for each session.. and usually 1 or 2 nights before the actual exam, I do a nationwide prep on a pay as u like basis. Drop me a line on Telegram 01121098865. I also have a separate Telegram group for teacher support esp newbies and anyone who likes my teaching tips, text me and mention Open Mic Group.
As usual pls discuss politely if you do not agree abt any of the suggested answers. Remember that these are not official MPM answers.
1. A (2x 500 =1000m2)
2. C (late evenings = parking is difficult = crowded)
3. B (buy mags usually from a bookshop)
4. B (next to hosp - docs n nurses)
5. A (angry = outburst)
6. B (sweets as reward for biting her tongue, ie. no outburst)
7. B (best present - not stated explicitly but the 2 other options can be proven wrong, ie big is not always nicest, did not say useful is the best either)
8. C (gave in when she offered him sweets)
9. C (she was better than them = he kept losing so he didnt want to play with her anymore)
10. C (started watching birds.. didnt work.. fill up her time)
11. A (stayed awake to read how to keep bird alive)
12. B (progress showed that the bird was close to her.. lived on her)
13. B (by walking closer to its flock)
14. C (not direct answer but by eliminating the fact that she didnt regret and no mention of wished to keep.. mixed feelings is the best option)
15. B (trend to drive on right is by the French n Americans)
16. C (he kept to right side of the road..load their materials into the wagon.
17. C (Japan changed sides 3 times, Russia never changed, Vietnam also never changed from the right)
18. too tricky (no mention of which paragraph so no idea which 'the left' and the 'right' they are referring to. maybe B is the best answer.
19. too tricky. A more than B (not much evidence for these two but logically cannot be C. I would go with A only because it is adapted from Reader's Digest rather than Text 2 which could be less objective as it is written from the point of view of BBC America)
20. B is a more obvious similarity as the reason why Malaysians drive on the right is clear but C is possible but we do not know exactly 'why' the 1835 Act was first put in place. no info on A at all.
// 21 to 26 are based on the actual article here //
21. C (Indonesian)
22. A (action was completed or not)
23. B (diff form if u read or heard about it)
24. D (untestable)
25. G (no sense to ask if lang diff led to diff in thinking)
26. F (Abo language does'nt use left or right)
27. B (use of geese to protect border, cannot be C as the geese r in immigration depts instead of the borders)
28. B (approach of using geese to control virus - no mention of resisting diseases, detect it or how good they are at monitoring the spread)
29. D (keep an eye on = protected)
30. B (para 4 - geese will sound alarm at intruders, para 8 - so good at noticing threats = more efficient at detecting danger)
31. C (para 5 - experiment = scientific fact, para 6 - doctor's opinion = personal observation)
32. D (excellent eyesight)
33. B (wide range of purposes not limited to food option)
34. B (he mentions MT's quote but does not elaborate with a response, rather he counters it with 'however, the question is not who reads but what is read = preferences in reading matter)
35. A (learn about themselves = glimpses of some portion of ourselves, and learn about other people = keener sense of common human identity)
36. tricky one, C is the best to me (para 4 = explains how the study of literature is practical, para 5 = provides examples to support the practicality of studying lit. A is not accurate because it is not focusing on 2 sides because if this is so para 5 should focus on why it is not practical to study lit. B is not the answer because para 5 does not explain each category and D is wrong because it is not a clear cut context about problems versus solutions)
37. A (habits of mind = develop thinking skills)
38. D (only D is mentioned in the para 8 - discussions often help establish an understanding of a work = exchange ideas with others)
39. B (having knowledge of lit devices is a prerequisite to an informed appreciation of it)
40. D (analytic skills that open up literature also have their uses when u listen to music...ppl, places, events etc, ie. other cultural development)
Tricky set.. I think I might be out by 3 or 4 questions as there doesn't seem to be enough evidence in the text that points to a solid answer. Anyway, que sera, sera, whatever will be will be.
Online night webinars start 1 month before Sem 2. pm me on Telegram to join the group. Ciao for now!
