MUET July 2012 Report Sample: REVISED

Primary & Secondary School Enrolment in 3 Regions

Table 1 depicts the school enrolment by region while Figure 1 shows a bar graph of income level by region. In general, school enrolment corresponds directly to the income level of each region whereby developed countries with higher income have much higher enrolment compared to under-developed countries.

Based on both stimuli, it can be concluded that school enrolment is greatly affected by income level. Developed countries such as USA with an impressive 85% high income level are the only regions to achieve 100% enrolment in primary school for 2010 while secondary school enrolment achieved a near-perfect 99%. Developing countries such as Thailand which enjoy 80% middle and high income levels in 2010 show a relatively high school enrolment for primary school (90%) and secondary school (82%). Finally, under-developed countries such as Myanmar with majority low income and only a marginal 5% are affluent has directly affected the poor enrolment rates with only 62% enrolment in primary schools and a low of 27% for secondary schools for 2010.

In conclusion, the rate of school enrolment is directly related to the affluence level of the region where countries that are under-developed and poor have poor school enrolment both for primary and secondary.

What do you think of my answer? :) Similar to yours?
* Take note that the data for 2006 and 2008 is disregarded because it is irrelevant to the report. This is one reason cited by examiners why the July results dropped drastically.

    1. of course u can.. but it will mean less marks for task fulfilment as your did not 'link' the info as required in the question.

      this question is 40 marks.
      - 20 marks for task fulfilment (content)
      - 20 marks for language (grammar & vocab)

  5. i wrote down all the percentages for each year for both schools for the 2nd paragraph.. then the 3rd paragraph i wrote something like : developed countries had the highest percentage of school enrolment because they were able to afford to enter schools as they had the highest income whereas the percentage of school enrolment of under-developed countries was the lowest because most of the citizens had the lowest income.. (without writing the percentage of the income).. is it consider as failed???

    1. From what i know, you NEED to have three of these things (trend, time, data) in your sentence to make it an analysis or a synthesis.

  7. to answer report writing, you must make sure you include the 'when', 'what' and the 'how'. It means that you need to mention the year, the data (the sales of local cars, the number of students, the trend (increase, decrease, fluctuate, no changes etc.), the numbers (%, RM, units etc.)There's no need to mention the reasons for the trend.

  16. Hihi, Audrey, as what you comment for the Question 1 of July 2012 MUET Writing 800/4 ( in 25th Sept):

1)you can only talk about the 2010 data in the first stimulus because the second stimulus has only 2010 data

2)You must also LINK both stimuli and show the correspondence between the data without giving your own assumptions

Is it mean that, your this Primary & Secondary School Enrolment in 3 Regions sample already irrelevant (as you wrote 2006&2008 data) and can't as a reference now? Thx!

    1. Thanks for your comment.. I have finally found the time to revise my answer. Hope you will read it and see if you agree with the new version. tq!

    2. Yea,thx to Audrey! Your revised sample looks great! Btw, do you have d sample for QS2, mind to spend some times to discuss some points with us? Thx!

      Question: Students' participation in co-curricular
activities has been made one of the criteria for entry into universities. What do you think of this requirement? Give your opinion and support it with reasons.
(My doubt : d criteria is after enter Uni OR before enter Uni)

      Delete
    3. the criteria is 'for entry' therefore the requirement that needs to be fulfilled before as part of the criteria before entering uni.

Here are some points to ponder.

      A) Agree with this requirement:
      1. Participation in co-curricular mirrors students' holistic development in line with National Education Philosphy, therefore, can cope better in uni as they will be better prepared for academics as well as student programs.
      2. Participation in co-curricular provides students' opportunity for leadership and character building which is necessary for them to have in order to cope with uni activities/programs.
      3. Students with prior experience in co-curricular will have better skills both in networking and softskills. They will definitely need these skills to succeed in uni.

Just a rough idea on how to answer within the question requirement rather than talk about the benefits and advantages of co-curricular activities.

Would you like to write the essay?
      3.

  20. miss audrey, i have a question,

if the first stimulus contains data from year 2011 till 2015 whereas the second stimulus contains only data in 2015, what should i write?

For example: the question asks us to write about the growth of ..... between 2011 and 2015 (first stimulus), and relate this info to the data in 2015 (second stimulus). does that mean i can only write data in 2015 for the first stimulus?? so i can't write anything related to the year 2011-2014 (for first stimulus) ???

But the question did mentions to write about the data between 2011 and 2015 (first stimulus) and relate that to the data in 2015(second stimulus)...

Do you have any clue on this?

  24. Dear Ms.Audrey,

There's something I don't quite understand regarding your statement "the data for 2006 and 2008 is disregarded because it is irrelevant to the report".
It is understandable that the graph only shows year 2010 but what should the data for 2006 and 2008 be excluded since there is some kind of trend like develop countries show the highest enrolment throughout etc.
Will we be penalised for that? If yes, under what condition should we exclude the data? Many past years also do have something similar but the data was not disregarded than.
Your advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
